The Shambling Guide to New York City<\/a><\/em> (2013) Mur Lafferty<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>I picked up this book with no expectations, and I believe that was the best way to read it.<\/p>\n

I had no idea what I was getting into, had no idea if I would even find it interesting, and found myself pulled into the story.<\/p>\n

There were lots of little bits that amused me. For instance, “November 1, he informed her, was the Day of the Dead, and a coterie holiday.”<\/p>\n

and<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m new to coterie food choices, but I\u2019m pretty sure that vomit is not one of the bodily fluids you enjoy.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And this passage:<\/p>\n

“Well, it\u2019s dark and drier than expected. Throw in an uncomfortable backseat and you have my first sexual experience,”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

made me snort-laugh.<\/p>\n

It also makes it obvious this is an adult book, with sexual content, but it’s not a boinking book, even though there are romantic bits. The boinking bits were important to the story, because they show both the power of an incubus as well as the ideas and beliefs that non-humans might have about sexuality, but the story wasn’t a vehicle for boinking. As such, I found it found it rather fascinating.<\/p>\n

But it’s also a romp, and I think if you go into it expecting something else, you may be disappointed. But if you want a fun distraction, this is recommended.
