Save that I long since came to terms with the fact that Alistair didn\u2019t love me.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cYou can\u2019t know\u2014 I mean at times everyone thinks their parents\u2014\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cQuite. Save that in my case Alistair admitted it flat out.\u201d Crispin stared at him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The relationships between members of the nobility were also somewhat horrifying.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I told him I\u2019d been Alistair\u2019s mistress first, so even though I thought exclusive rights were something claimed by colonial powers, not mature adults, if he was going to get in a huff about betrayal he\u2019d have to get in line behind Alistair and my husband, to name only two with a prior claim.\u201d She took a sip of whisky and coffee. \u201cI\u2019m afraid that didn\u2019t improve the situation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Though in so many ways, that makes sense, since these were arranged marriages from which there was no divorce.<\/p>\n<p>The mystery was better than in the original version, and the characters were (of course) more developed, since they&#8217;ve had several books to grow their relationships.<\/p>\n<p>I also found the start of the mystery&#8211;a lost early version of <em>Hamlet<\/em> quite interesting as well.<br \/>\n<strong>Rating: 8\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Published by Kensington Books<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Berkeley Square Affair (2014) Teresa Grant Set in London in 1817.
