Stupid. Stupid.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Because they are unhappy to find a coyote in their midst (and a the head of the pack). It also finds Samuel tired of living, and that is a very interesting plot line.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhat have you done with Samuel? Is he all right?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Pale ice blue eyes examined me thoughtfully. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSamuel? I\u2019m pretty certain he\u2019d forgotten I could do this: it has been so long since we battled for control. He let me out to play when he chose, and I left it to him.\u201d He was quiet a moment or two, then he said, almost shyly. \u201cYou know when I\u2019m here. You call me Sam.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And, in a thread that lasts for several books, Mercy causes Gabriel to have a falling out with his mother.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cShe wasn\u2019t happy about Heart pointing a gun at Maia,\u201d I told him. \u201cBut I think she was madder at me than Heart. He didn\u2019t bring in a werewolf for her kids to play with.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>His face went police-officer blank. \u201cWhat?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d I said. \u201cI don\u2019t think she\u2019ll be coming here to get her car fixed anymore. Gabriel\u2019s not coming back either.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou did what?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCut it out,\u201d growled Adam. He gestured at Sam. \u201cThis wolf would never harm a hair on a child\u2019s head, and Mercy knew it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And we also see Ben&#8217;s continued growth.
