Frost Burned<\/a><\/em> (2013) Patricia Briggs<\/a><\/p>\n

\"frost_burned\"<\/a>Book 7 finds Mercy adjusting to married life–and being a step mother. It also has Mercy attempting to discover what has happened to the entire pack, when they are kidnapped by rogue federal agents.<\/p>\n

This book has several scenes that have stuck with me, including Mercy throwing up on Kyle’s floor.<\/p>\n

We get a lot of Kyle in this book, which makes me happy.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you find out if they found out anything about them?\u201d I asked. <\/p>\n

Kyle gave me a look, then busied himself making me a peanut butter and huckleberry jelly sandwich. \u201cWhat really bothers me is that I understood that question. You will eat this and go to sleep, so your pronouns get their antecedents back.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

ALSO, we get Asil, who I always enjoy.<\/p>\n

There was silence on the stairs behind Ben and me. <\/p>\n

\u201cI believe I misheard,\u201d said Asil, who\u2019d stopped on the stairs. \u201cEnglish is not my first, nor even my fifth, language. Did you say \u2018a vampire friend\u2019?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI did.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There was another of those speaking silences, then he laughed. \u201cPlease tell me I won\u2019t end up with eggs in my pillowcase or peanut butter on my car seat.\u201d <\/p>\n

I threw up my hands involuntarily and turned to him to face him again. Walking backward, I said, \u201cI was twelve. Don\u2019t you wolves have anything better to gossip about than things that happened twenty years ago?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cMi princesa,\u201d he told me, his voice deep and flirty, \u201cI was in Spain and I heard about the peanut butter. Two decades are nothing, I assure you\u2014 we will speak of it a hundred years from now in hushed voices. There are big bad wolves all over the world who tremble at the sound of his name, yet a little puny coyote girl peanut-buttered the seat of Bran Cornick\u2019s car because he told her that she should wear a dress to perform for the pack.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d I said, getting hot about it again. I turned and stalked down the hall. \u201cHe said Evelyn\u2014 my foster mother\u2014 should know better, that she should have made sure I had a dress to wear. He made her cry.\u201d And that was the last time I consented to play the piano. <\/p>\n

I opened the guest room door, and Asil paused until I looked at his face. \u201cYes,\u201d he said sincerely. \u201cSuch a one deserves peanut butter on the seat of his pants.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cCarefully worded for a fae who doesn\u2019t have to tell the truth,\u201d said Asil. <\/p>\n

Tad turned to the old wolf coolly. \u201cI am always careful with the truth. It is a powerful thing and deserves respect.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOf course,\u201d answered Asil. \u201cWhen you are old, you will find yourself assuming that everyone else is careless with important things, too. My comment was not meant as censure; you merely surprised me.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
