\"\"<\/a>Ava, Lock, and Ezra have been sent by the Coterie (magical mafia) to collect a tithe from a witch who has missed payment.<\/p>\n

But when the find a gingerbread house, they know things are more serious than they expected.<\/p>\n

Lock stopped and crossed his arms, giving us a look that Ez and I knew well. <\/p>\n

\u201cDid we forget to do our homework?\u201d Ezra whispered in my ear. <\/p>\n

\u201cNeither of you read the file, did you?\u201d Lock said accusingly. <\/p>\n

\u201cI skimmed it.\u201d I said. \u201cSomething about collecting money, blah blah blah.\u201d \u201c<\/p>\n

I looked at the pictures,\u201d Ezra added. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere weren\u2019t any pictures.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I’ve had Firebug<\/em> on my wishlist for two years, but it hasn’t dropped in price, so I haven’t picked it up.<\/p>\n

I really should, because this is a short story with the character from Firebug, and its (of course) fun and good.<\/p>\n

In the end, we decided I should approach the house alone. I looked the least threatening and I was the youngest\u2014 people don\u2019t put up their guard for young teenage girls the same way they would for the boys. It didn\u2019t matter that, out of the three of us, I was the most dangerous. The important thing was that I didn\u2019t look it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This story is set in the same world as her Necromancer series, but (at least in this story) none of the characters from there make an appearance.<\/p>\n

I did enjoy this, and now I really want to read Firebug<\/em>.
