And this, this is my favorite story in this series.<\/p>\n

There was nothing shameful about the figure Sebastian was pointing to, not unless one harbored an irrational hatred for bar charts.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry,\u201d Sebastian told Violet\u2019s niece. \u201cI\u2019ll try not to seduce you on the spot.\u201d <\/p>\n

Violet felt a headache starting to form, sharp little pinpricks in her forehead. \u201cSebastian, you can\u2019t talk of seduction to my unmarried niece.\u201d <\/p>\n

Another man might have blushed and apologized. But Sebastian just gave her a cocky smile and a wink. \u201cI wasn\u2019t talking of seduction,\u201d he said. \u201cI was talking of not seduction, which, as I\u2019m sure you have surmised, is the exact opposite of seduction.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s specious,\u201d Violet retorted. \u201cIf I asked you not to talk of elephants and you wandered around bellowing about not-elephants, you\u2019d be mentioning elephants with every breath. The column of all things that are not elephants includes marsupials, canines\u2014\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe column of everything that is not an elephant does not include not-elephants?\u201d he inquired, innocently examining his nails. \u201cThat\u2019s counter-intuitive.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe column of conversational topics,\u201d Violet stressed, \u201cthat are not elephant related does not include a discussion of the elephant-shaped hole in the conversation!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You think it\u2019s hard spending time with me? Imagine being a blacksmith puzzle made by a madman. You\u2019re unable to perform the basic functions of your existence. You never bring anyone joy. You learn not to hope when someone picks you up. Because no matter how high their anticipation runs upon starting, you know what will happen in the end: They\u2019ll throw you away in disgust.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Oh. Look. Almost crying again.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome, Violet. I know better than to woo you with confusing data sets.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cClearly, you don\u2019t know me as well as you think. Confusing data sets are my specialty.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I love this story so very much.
