Parker<\/a> narrated by Burt Reynolds<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2AIDsyU\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Spenser-Chance.jpg?resize=185%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9518\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Spenser-Chance.jpg?w=417&amp;ssl=1 417w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klishis.com\/reading\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Spenser-Chance.jpg?resize=185%2C300&amp;ssl=1 185w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 185px) 100vw, 185px\" \/><\/a>And I&#8217;ve reached Burt Reynolds narrating, and almost the book where I entered this series.<\/p>\n<p>The criminals in Boston are in a bit of an upheaval, and some of it is Spenser&#8217;s fault: He and Hawk took out Tony Marcus several years earlier, and Joe Broz realized his son was never going to be take over his business.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBroz retired?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot really, but his kid\u2019s a bust, and Vinnie left him, and he\u2019s about seventy, and his heart\u2019s not in it anymore.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mind you, Vinnie hasn&#8217;t aged even if Joe has.<\/p>\n<p>No more mention of Korea, no more mention of fighting Joe Wolcott. <\/p>\n<p>I think this is the book where he gives in to the idea of Spenser (and Hawk) not aging. Take this passage:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(T)his time when I went into his white office he was an old man. The changes weren\u2019t so much physical as attitudinal. As if he had decided to be old.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Spenser has &#8220;decided&#8221; not to get old, and so he shan&#8217;t for the rest of the series.<\/p>\n<p>I was amused by this passage with and about Hawk.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHow do you know Hawk, Lester?\u201d Susan said. I smiled. I knew she wasn\u2019t making conversation. Susan actually wanted to know. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cKnew Hawk in Cuba,\u201d Lester said. <\/p>\n<p>Susan looked at Hawk. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCuba?\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>Hawk shrugged. Behind us a maroon Buick Regal pulled away from a pickup zone and fell in behind us. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat were you doing in Cuba, Lester?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLittle of this, little of that,\u201d Lester said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Susan turned to look at Hawk. The maroon Buick passed us on an open stretch. Usually when that happens the car keeps going and leaves you behind. The Regal pulled in two cars ahead of us and stayed there. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSame thing,\u201d Hawk said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I really enjoyed this book, as we&#8217;re finally seeing the consequences of actions Spenser and Hawk had taken earlier (ie, Joe Broz and Tony Marcus).<\/p>\n<p>I also liked the fact that almost none of the people Spenser and Hawk interact with are very likable. Even Joe Broz, who is portrayed at least somewhat sympathetically, isn&#8217;t particularly likable.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a good mystery and a good story, and I very much enjoyed both it and Burt Reynolds narration.<br \/>\n<strong>Rating: 8.5\/10<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Publisher: Phoenix Books<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chance, Audio Version (1996\/1997) Robert B.
