20 January 2009

I would like to point out that eight years ago, the depths and horror of the Bush administration were predicted in “Bush: ‘Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over’“.

But today we can begin the reversal of the losses of our civil liberties.

Today we are taking the first step in the right direction to turn the country from the darkness of the Bush administration, an administration that allowed banks to run a muck by placing profit in front of the security of investors and investments. An administration that violated civil liberties after Bush declared that the terrorists hated us for our freedoms (obviously the solution was to curtail those freedoms, so the terrorists would no longer hate us). An administration that believed the environment existed solely for the extraction of natural resource. An administration that fought advances is medical research.

Today we turn the page on that dark past and start the hard work of moving forward. It’s not going to be easy, and it’s not going to be pretty, but we can do it.

Yes we can.

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
–Abraham Lincoln

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
— Benjamin Franklin

We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.
— William Faulkner

Loot for ME!

Well, I bought it myself, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome.

I bought the Alex Ross Obama t-shirt!

I also bought one for my mom, and was tempted to send one to Eric, but I didn’t know his t-shirt size.

People Suck

If you looked at yesterday’s pictures of the game traffic, you noticed that we have several yard signs for the election. (More than appear in the picture, actually.)

When I went to the Democratic Headquarters, I wanted an Obama sign, a Jay Rockefeller sign, and a Charlene Marshall sign. When I got there my friend Gwen was working, and she talked me into several other signs, since they were out of Obama signs, and told me she’d let me know when they got more Obama signs.

Last week we got our Obama sign, and added it to the yard.

Last night someone stole not just our Obama sign, but all the Obama signs in the neighborhood. (There were four Obama signs and one McCain sign on our drive home.) They didn’t touch the other signs, just stole our Obama sign.

We’ll try and get another sign today–assuming they still have some.

People suck.

ADDENDUM the First:
Gina For The Win!
“Yes, removing a few yard signs will totally help John McCain and Caribou Barbie win.”
