My cactus bloomed! Plus, lots of blooms on my dayl lilies and coreopsis.

The latest flower pr0n (broom, irises, and pansies).
And even better, some of the pictures Michael took at the Newport Aquarium.
During a break in the rain, I took a few minutes to get some more flower pr0n.
Pansy, Bearded iris, and Broom, all for your viewing pleasure.
My broom is still looking rough. The early snow we got last fall bent many of the stems. But other than that the plant looks great, and I love the color of the flowers.
Some belated flower pr0n from April.
Not the best I’ve taken, unfortunately. But, can’t have everything.
Also, a picture from our trip to Akron, for Michael’s grandmother’s birthday.
This just in:
Spring plant sale under way at Greenhouse

There goes my month’s spending money…
Spring is on the horizon, so you know what that means!
Flower pr0n!
The heather and crocuses are blooming right now, but I haven’t gotten a picture of the crocuses (and now probably won’t). But I got two nice pictures of the heather. What I like best about these pictures is they look better than the heather does as an whole plant.
The heather has just limped along for the past four years, but it’s still there, and it’s blooming, so I suppose I don’t have much call for complaint.
Okay, are you prepared to be jealous?
My black eyed susans are flowering, although the flowers don’t seem as hardy as they did last year. But it could just be me.
I can’t believe how large the hibiscus flowers are. They’re huge–bigger than my hand–which is pretty amazing considering that hibiscus isn’t supposed to be hardy in this zone. It dies back completely during the winter, but comes right back when the soil temperatures are warm.
Feel free to check out the latest flower pr0n.
The daylilies by the driveway are blooming–tons of blooms, which makes up for the fact that they only bloom once. I still need to look up the cultivar–I think it’s candywine or something like that. But I really like the color.
Also, my hydrangea has finally bloomed! When I got it, I didn’t realize exactly how much water it would want. Jeesh! It’s as if the thing has no roots! Then last year, despite the constant watering, it still didn’t bloom. But this year, I’ve got gorgeous blue blooms, so I guess it has been worth the effort. (Of course the blooms are blue! This is West by God Virginia, land coal mines, clay soil, and acid min drainage.)
And other bee parts in the latest flower pr0n.
Not the best of my pictures I admit, but I still like it.
Coreopsis, Purple Coneflower, Daisies, and much more!
It’s hot (current Morgantown temperature, 88 F) so everything feels sweaty and droopy. It’s one of those days when I’d rather sit inside and write about my flowers than go outside and tend them. It’ll be a little better later in the day, but still not condusive to sitting on the porch looking at the plants.
And for what it’s worth, currently Tom and I are the top two google hits for Flower Pr0n.
So, the book a day thing is only for during the week. Weekends, apparently, are for no free time at all.
Went to Charleston this weekend. Michael’s mother turned 60, so we went down to surprise her. Spent time with her, and with Michael’s sister and her family. I actually took pictures of Wilson, his nephew, however most of those pictures just showed a small blur where Wilson was supposed to be, so you mostly get Maggie. Who is really very adorable.
If pictures of people you don’t know, and don’t care about aren’t your thing, I have some new flower pr0n.
My lavender is in bloom, which makes me very happy, since I love lavender. I’m glad I planted it by the driverway, so I can smell it every time I walk by. Additionally my day lilies are blooming like crazy, which gives extra color along the front of the house.
And my red rose bush has bloomed. We bought the bush reduced for quick sale a couple years ago, and for the last two years I kept thinking the thing was dead, but then it would surprise me and keep stuggling along. So last fall we moved it closer to the house, where the soil is better and I can dump water off the porch onto it when it looks dry. This year it went mad, and has huge, red blooms, that are taking days to open. And they have a very spicy smell, so I really should cut one to bring in.
Except for the fact that it will immediately be chewed on. So perhaps not.
Although my other day lilies are still budding, my lemon lilies are blooming. If only they bloomed more than once over the summer.
ADDENDUM the First: Check out Tom’s latest Flower Pr0n. The peony is especially pretty.
