Female Heroes
Top 75 Heroines of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Horror
Initially I was disappointed, becuase they mostlylooked at women in film, TV, and comics. So it’s somewhat limited in that aspect, but in retrospect, it’s a resonable limitation [Exceptions: Granny Weatherwax (Discworld) & Morgaine (Mists of Avalon)].
Plus, Jadzia Dax [Deep Space Nine] was on the list (#42).
Glaring omission: Zoe [Firefly]. Though she show was on for such a short time, I suppose I can accept that. (since the list was begun in 2004)

Hmm, but both of these have been turned into television — I can’t recall exactly which of the Discworld books were done as cartoons but I bet Granny W was in one of them. And I’ve actually toyed with buying Mists of Avalon on DVD… The only one I recall seeing in there that may not have been in a comic or tv show/movie is Honor Harrington (I’ve never read those books, but they’ve been recommended to me several times…)
Some of the choices were neat, if only for nostalgia reasons (Dan-o named his daughter after Scarlett, Sean recalled Electra Woman and Dyna Girl with pleasure, and I think it should have been Akane on that list instead of Ranma…) and some of them I just don’t agree with, but what a daunting task it would be to put together a list like that! (I did get a kick out of having Scheherazade in there…) I’m not sure if I dare trying to put together my own list!

Lousy excuse. There were 14 episodes of the series plus the movie which means that Zoe has appeared on screen for more total minutes than Ripley. :-)

I briefly considered making my own list, but it would be heavily weighted towards fantasy books, and I think there’s a lot less common ground there than with movies and TV (and major comics)
And yeah, it’s not a great excuse, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were trying to list characters everyone would be more likely to know.
