My Favorite Plant

I take lots of pictures, but I tend to ignore my favorite plant on our property.

Sugar Maple

That’s the sugar maple in our side yard. It provides deep shade to this end of the porch in the afternoons. Between the shade, and the breeze that constantly blows, this is one of the best spots on our property. This pictures was taking in the morning, so that’s the maximum amount of sun that side of the house gets.

When I come home from work, I like to sit on the edge of the deck, and look out over my plants in the side yard and watch traffic go by.

This is the view I have when I sit on the edge of the porch, watching the cars go by.

What’s the cement slab in the yard? (Just curious)

I like shade, but it does have the disadvantage of drawing bugs, at least in this area. We don’t have ANYTHING to give shade on our property. The subdivision used to be the old football field. We’re on about the 30 yard line. I’d happily take a few bugs to get some shade. ;)

Cement slab? Oh, that’s a paving stone. We have ‘em around the back too. I walk that way to get to the garden at the front of the house, and that area would get particularly muddy (it was about three years before we got any grass/moss to grow) so that gives me something to step on. We also have smaller stepping stones to the right (towards the hose) and to the left (past the paving stone) but you can’t really see either of them.

If you want something fast growing, look for a maple or a poplar, and spend the money to get a larger tree.

Just make sure you don’t plant over your sewer line. :)

My favorite plant is my biggest tree — an Ash tree in the backyard. It provides perfect shade for my brick patio. (And an opportunity for my dad to joke while carrying pruned branches to the dumpster that he was “hauling ash.” ha ha)

Hey Michelle. I finally found your flower pRon…I love it too. A friend at: http://supernaturalhudsonvalley.blogspot.com is all about the flower pRon too.

I don’t completely get the cookies thing. What exactly did our buddy nathan promise???? I’m all about the cookies these days as you will see in my blog.

Anyway, so glad to jump on the amature gardener bandwagonesque…make youself a fixture at in my subtropics!

Well, I usually post flower pr0n over the weekends, when I’m actually home. But if something is blooming and looking nice, I try to get a picture of it.

Mostly I just love flowers, and love having them around.

And as far as the chocolate cookies, when someone leaves their blog unattended for a period of time, I’ll root around their virtual place and look for chocolate.

Also, I’ve been known to perhaps bend the truth to make Nathan owe everyone chocolate. Because really that just seems like a good thing to do, doesn’t it?
