Random (but not really)

RUUUUUMMMMMMM!

I’ll be spending the day sitting on the porch watching all the motorcycles go by.

I’m sorry I missed the Clydesdales–but aren’t there more than three motorcycle movies out there?

ADDENDUM the First:
I missed the beginning of the mass of bikes that went by my house, so my results may not reflect all riders, but I was struck by one thing. In all the bikes that went by I saw five bikes with stupid helmetless riders (illegal in West Virginia mind you), and I saw one (1) bike driven by a female. Lots of women riding, but only one woman driving her own bike?

Of course all the female riders might have been at the beginning of the mass of riders I saw, all riding together. But with all the bikes I’ve seen going back and forth since–no women.

I did see lots of pretty bikes though.

ADDENDUM the Second:
On the way to the movies we saw for female drivers–one of whom may have been the woman who drove past my house earlier. And no helmetless riders.

Well, I guess I might as well comment on the female rider thing while I am here. You are right there aren’t as many female riders as there should be. But for various reasons they have chosen not to ride there own. A lot of it has to do with the cost to obtain and maintain a second “piece of iron”, but that is a minor obstichle to over come. Some female riders enjoy being on the back, some don’t. Most of the females that I have talked to or given rides to (including my mother, who by the way is a licensed rider) say they can’t stand to be on the back, but are concerned that they would not be able to handle the bike. However, I think the main reason is dedication (for lack of a better term), guys ride to be free and enjoy the open rode and most will ride no matter what, most females other than the diehards who already have there own aren’t nearly as passionate about it. If you don’t believe me, this winter some time take a trip to Triple S, and just look throught the parking lot, tell how many Harley stickers you see in the windows of the vehicles parked in the lot. But also this weekend was only a small percentage of bikers. If you were to attend a bike week at say Daytona or Mertyle Beach, you would see a greater percentage of women riders. The thing about riding a back is, it is (for the most part) a discrimnationless pasttime. Don’t get me wrong there is some predjudice, but it envolves what you ride more so than who you are. THere are guys out there that will only ride one brand of motorcyle, and will go out of there way to make it miserable for guys who aren’t riding that brand, but that is a small percentage. The fact is if you are on 2 wheels wheather you are male or female that is what is important, just because I own a $25000 Harley doesn’t mean I won’t ride with a person who owns a $2500 Honda. It’s all about riding.
