Slow and Steady
Well, I’m up to 25k words now. Things aren’t going quickly, but at least they’re going.
I had a problem last week, when I decided that I had a major plot continuity problem, however, I have resolved that issue, at least for now. We’ll see if it holds up.
And for the curious, here’s the first draft of the Prologue. Please be warned, the first thing I do is kill a whole bunch of children.
The first to fall ill were children. The children were also the least likely to survive. If you look back at the footage for the day—news reels and home movies shot for other reasons—you can see the first children falling sick. At a parade, a little girl in a red, white, and blue dress, with blonde ponytails falls to her knees and vomits blood, her family gathered around her in confusion and concern. A young boy, no more than eight, falls off his bicycle and rolls on the ground clutching his head as the camera crashes to the ground.
The hospitals started to fill up a few hours later. They tried to cope, but there was nothing they could do except make the patients comfortable, and relieve what pain they had. There were victims all across the country—all across the world—all ages, races, and genders, with seemingly nothing in common.
