"So this is what we think is going on."
The six of them were gathered in a small room. There was a monitor on the table in the center of the room, but other than that, the room was void of furniture or decoration. The guy who spoke was standing in front of the monitor with a second shorter guy, who looked uncomfortable being the center of attention.
"Kevin here," the speaker nodded to the shorter guy, "has discovered what they've been doing." He looked at Kevin and then stepped back to let him talk.
Kevin started down at the table. "Well," he spoke softly, almost mumbling. "You know we've been given implants..."
"What?" Everyone started speaking at once. "What do you mean implants?" "What kind of implants?" "How come he knows about this and we don't?"
The first speaker stepped forward and motioned for silence. "We don't have a lot of time, so let's save the questions for later, okay Claire?" He looked pointedly towards the blonde woman who had been loudest.
Kevin started to speak again. "I thought everyone knew about the implants. It wasn't until I was talking to Mike here that I realized that no one else knew about them but me."
"But what does this matter?" Claire leaned forward towards the table. "How is this going to helps us escape?"
"If you'd let Kevin finish, then you'd know." Claire half-heartedly glared at the guy beside her who had made the comment. She crossed her arms and stood back.
Kevin looked, if anything, even more hesitant. "You know those strange dreams we've all been having?" Everyone nodded. The dreams had been a constant subject of conversations since their second day there. "Well, they're not really dreams."
Mike held up his hands to silence them. "Let him finish."
"What I mean, is that we can actually do the things we've been dreaming about. That's what the implants do. They give us powers. But they didn't want us to know what's going on, so they apparently tried to hide the fact from us."
"They didn't do a very good job if you found out."
"I didn't see you figuring anything out, Claire," the guy beside her said.
"Look, I don't know why I'm different, but whatever they've been using to knock us out works differently on me than on everyone else. Like I said, it wasn't until I talked to Mike that I realized that you all weren't experiencing the same things that I was."
"Okay, so we have these implants. How is that going to help us escape? It was hard enough getting her to meet. If we have these special powers," Claire said the word almost as if it tasted bad, "how can that help us escape?"
Mike stepped forward to talk again. "Okay, it's going to be like this…"

It was dark, and Mike was running through the woods, one of them close behind. He dodged the trees that seemed to appear out of nowhere. The man chasing him called out to someone else, "Keep an eye out! They've learned how to transport!"

Claire was facing one of the half men, half robots they kept. "Leave me alone!" She continued to punch the creature in the face. This had apparently been going on for some time, as the man-robot was bloody and bruised. "Leave me alone!" Claire kicked the thing, knocking it to the floor. She turned to run out of the room, but the creature reached out and grabbed her ankle. She stomped down on its arm, hearing bones break as she did so. "Let go of me you thing!" She kicked it in the head, yet it continued to rise. The man-robots might be a little slow, but they were extremely hard to stop. It didn't matter that she had beaten its face and upper body to a pulp, it was still coming after her. She stomped on its fingers, finally getting it to release her. She turned and ran, but the thing, now on its feet, continued after her.

Kevin raced through the trees, paying no attention to where he was going. He ran wildly through the brush and brambles, heedless of what was ahead of him. Two of them were behind him, and closing in, when he stumbled and fell.

The tree was huge. Its white bark stood out against the night sky, a tall brick building loomed nearby. The six sat in the upper branches of the tree. Mike spoke to them in a low voice. "It worked. They're chasing the doubles. Once we're out of here we'll drop the glamour. Whether or not they accept what they see isn't our problem. Is everyone ready?"
Tired, but excited to be going home, everyone nodded.
"Alright then, let's get out of here."
