Unphotgenic
I had to get my picture taken at work today.
Since all of IT at Health Sciences is being put into one department, the Big Boss wants pictures of everyone. Which makes sense, since I don’t know who half these people are, which is kinda awkward.
The discussion I had with the photographer who was taking the pictures (who was really a great guy and I would have liked to talk to him more) reminded me why I don’t like to be photographed very much.
I’ve got some weird thing going on with my face, that when I smile and laugh (as I am wont to do) my eyes get all squinty. Here is a perfect example if you think I’m making this up. (There are actually several examples on this page.[Yes, Michael has a really long ponytail in most of those pictures.])
No, this isn’t a horrible thing, but it is kinda weird, because I end up looking like I walk around squinting all the time (No, there are not any problems with my eyesight thank you. Last time I checked it was 15/20. [Which reminds me, it’s past time to get my eyes checked again.])
In person apparently people don’t notice, but it really stands out in pictures. Which is why I’m reluctant to have my picture taken. Because for my eyes to appear in a photograph I have to look serious. But if I try and look serious, I look like I’m plotting something. (As the photographer discovered when he retook my picture.)
We both decided to go with the squinty-eyed picture, since that one looked like me most of the time, as opposed to be plotting something. If I’m lucky, the pictures will be small enough that no one will notice. Because the boss already rejected my “Be a Bat” picture.
