Dominoes, Danzón, and Death (2024) Raquel V. Reyes (A Caribbean Kitchen Mystery #4)
It’s been three years since the events in Puerto Rico, and Miriam hasn’t been involved in a single murder–mostly because everyone was staying at home because of the pandemic.
My husband was a recent convert to Miami’s craft brewery scene. Our recycling bin had never been so colorful.
But a local tour guide is killed after arguing with her boss Delvis, and Robert’s project comes to a halt again when a body is found at the site they are digging.
To make things worse, someone has been threatening Senior, and Marjorie demands Miriam figure out what’s going on.
Yeah, Marjorie.
The more Marjory talked, the looser she got. The museum that she (and Senior) had ‘paid for’ was supposed to be more about ‘our history’ and less about ‘Indians.’
I balled my hand into a fist and stuffed it behind a pleated velvet pillow.
Yick.
One of the things I am really enjoying about this series is all the Spanish / Spanglish. I can figure things out from context, but I really enjoy using the translate function on my ereader to get the precise words.
No te preocupes. Viviana esta con ella ahora misma consiguiendo un abogado.
Don’t worry. Viviana is with her right now, getting a lawyer.
I’ve never been good with speaking and hearing languages, but I can often pick up the gist of things when reading, and this is a fun way to learn more.
“It’s how old people looked up the definition of words before the internet,” Gordon said.
