It’s been raining quite a bit here in Morgantown (I know, shocking) so despite the recent heat, the flowers are doing quite well.

We have two Rose of Sharon plants on the hill in front of the house. They are not growing as quickly as I would have expected.

These are from the beginning of the week when we went to The Garden of the Gods in Colorado. I took a lot of pictures, so you’ll need to click through to my Flickr set to see most of them.

I have Black Eyed Susans along the driveway where the bulbs come up in the spring. It works out quite well, since they black eyed susan foliage comes up just as the leaves of the bulbs are starting to die.

It is somewhat amazing this bee could even fly.

I still have some day lilies blooming.

I’m still adoring my new camera.
On the garden end of things, we haven’t had rain in awhile, so I’m actually having to make sure to water my flowers or I’m going to lose some of the my hydrophillic ones. But it’s not too painful a task, since I have a soaker hose set up.

Balloon plant. I love the color of these flowers.

Taken with the new camera!

Low maintenance rose in the corner of the yard. It’s got vicious thorns, but blooms all summer long and requires no watering.

My day lilies are almost all blooming now. Last year I moved one cultivar to the front of the house, and when I picked up three new varieties at the WVU Greenhouse this year, I took the opportunity to move some other flowers out so most of the day lilies could be in the front bed.
There are also several species of Asiatic lilies blooming, but as I’ve mentioned before, I don’t like them, and really don’t like their smell, so I’m not too excited about trying to get close to photograph them. I may move them next year, because their scent is overwhelming.

Jasmine. This is a potted plant I put on the deck every summer, and every winter I wonder if it’s going to survive the basement and the cats.

All the rain we’ve had has been great for the flowers.

Coreopsis (with hawt bee on flower action!)
The light must have been just right yesterday, because I was pleased with almost all the pictures I took of my flowers.
Plus, I got some good hot bee on lavender action!

Even if I do say so myself, I’ve done a good job of finding a variety of perennials so that I have something blooming from spring to fall. Stella D’Oros are going now–even the ones that were transplanted are blooming, though I don’t know if I’ll get more blooms out of the transplanted ones any time soon.

Stella D’Oro day lily. These are the ones I thinned and transplanted and gave away. They’ll bloom at least once, if not twice more this summer.

Yesterday I spent a couple hours in the garden transplanting and thinning and generally cleaning up. I still have day lilies that I have too many of, so lemme know if you would like some.
And of course things are really starting to bloom. The peonies are at the end of their bloom cycle, but the day lilies are starting to bud, and there are clematis flowers and pretty much all in all things look quite nice.

Ferns and the bleeding heart on the North side of the house in the shade.

Just spent two hours in the garden.
Anyone in the area who would like some Stella D’Oro day lilies and is willing to come pick them up can have them. Mine badly needed thinned, and I decide to thin them on the day when temperatures were in the 60s, rather than waiting until they bloomed and then temperature were in the 80s or 90s.

Spiderwort. I’m thinking I should move this to the top of the hill and perhaps put one of the azaleas down the hill in its spot.
