It Was Very Strong

Man charged with battery in addition to DUI.

All I have to say is that my husband had better be careful.

WVU vs Villanova

It’s the last Saturday in August in Morgantown, so that means it’s a Mountaineer game!

My morning was so bad I came home and went back to bed. (I rushed to get things together, only discover that the post offices in Star City and Morgantown are CLOSED. This does NOT make me happy.)

Now the skies have cleared, the temperature is 81–perfect football weather.

We’re going to grill out soon, and enjoy the day while listening to the game, including sitting on the deck watching the drunks! Woo!

ADDENDUM the First:
Halftime Score is
WVU 24 – Villanova – 7

Also?

Virginia Tech LOST
Pitt LOST
and most importantly

Michigan is LOSING! Go Utah!

Villanova_0001

ADDENDUM the Second:
Pat White breaks a stadium record, with five touchdowns for the day!

Go Pat White!

Michigan is still LOSING! Ha Ha Ha!

ADDENDUM the Third:
Car and foot traffic are picking up.

Come on UTAH!

ADDENDUM the Third:
48 to 21 WVU!

Congratulations Coach Stewart!

ADDENDUM the Fourth:
Utah 25 Michigan 23

Hope the rest of the season goes the same way!

Why I Hate the Dominion Post (cont.)

The local news paper, referred to often as the Diminishing Pest, is most likely the worst paper in WV.

Why?

Yesterday, on the 45th anniversary of the March on Washington and of Martin Luther King Jr’s seminal “I Have a Dream” speech, Barak Obama was nominated as the first black presidential candidate for a major party in the history of the United State of America.

The top headline on the front page of the Dominion Post?

“Work to begin on WVU day care”

The next headline?

“Woman dies in single-car accident” (with a picture of the woman’s body being removed from the car.)

Any mention of this historical moment?

Nope.

What a bunch of Jim Wrights.

Odds and Ends

Classes start today.

This means that traffic is going to be unbearable all week. I may skip our mid-week trip to the grocery store on Wednesday/Thursday if things are still bad by then.

I’m going to spend most of the week sitting and the front desk, not only because we have two brand-new GAs, and not only because none of the GAs have worked during a fall semester start, but because we’re probably going to be extremely busy, and the faster we can help people and get them logged in, the better.

The weekend was pleasant. My aunt, uncle, and cousins came by Saturday afternoon to visit with my grandmother. That’s always fun, if a little crazy.

Oh, I printed the stills I took from the Flip. I printed two stills on a single sheet 4×6 photo paper, and they looked fantastic. I don’t think I could have printed them much larger, but they looked surprisingly good. (I have one copy to my grandmother, and mailed another copy to my cousin’s grandfather.)

Which reminds me, I love my new printer. I printed out some flower pictures to send to Michael’s grandmother, and I couldn’t tell them came from a printer. (Usually you can look at a picture and tell it was printed; these are really good pictures.)

Otherwise, don’t expect much this week. I’m writing several posts early (right now is actually Sunday night, but this will be posted Tuesday morning). But I expect to be busy.

Which means I’ll spend a long time at the front desk surfing the web, probably.

Anti-Whining

I just wanted to say that the weather has been gorgeous this weekend.

Right now it’s 70 F and sunny.

Yesterday, when my aunt, uncle, and cousins came by, we got to have dinner on the deck. Temperatures were in the lower 80s initially, but half the deck is in the shade, and there was a lovely breeze.

We had turkey burgers and chicken dogs and blueberry cobbler (HA! Now I know what I’m posting on Tuesday!)

All in all it was an awesome afternoon.

Tygart Lake

So in addition to getting video of some very cute twins, I also took pictures when my uncle and I walked around the lake on Wednesday.

That’s Just… Embarassing

Man tries to rob store with empty jello box.

“He said he didn’t expect them to have a lot of money, but decided to rob them anyway. He wanted some money for gasoline and cigarettes,” James said. “It was really kind of silly. I don’t know what the heck he was thinking.”

Ack!

OK.

(deep breath)

I just had to bounce 27″ TV guy from the lab again. He’s 6’3″ and about 260 and is even further gone than he was last time I had to throw him out.

I didn’t call DPS to report the incident, although I did make everyone area of what had happened, and tell them if he came back they were to call GPS to have him escorted out.

But still.

Is this week over yet?

ADDENDUM:
I called DPS and they now have a copy of his non-Driver’s License.

Today

Almost forgot. This weekend is MountainFest.

If they come over this way, I’ll take pictures, but so far I’ve only seen a handful of bikes at a time.
