If it is warm enough to be wearing a mini-skirt or short-shorts, then it is too warm to be wear big ugly fluffy boots.
Conversely, if it is cold enough to be wearing big ugly fluffy boots, then it is too cold to be bare legged in short-shorts or a mini-skirt.
Also, big fluffly boots and skinny jeans that don’t fit either into the boots or outside the boots, but instead are kinda scrunched up at the top of the boot? That just looks plain stupid.
Dress for the weather people. Y’all have the internet, use it.
In fact, let me help. Here’s the Morgantown weather and forecast. Not only does it tell you the projected temperature for today, it also projects temperatures for several days in the future! This means you could check the weather before you even went to bed!
I realize this is a strange concept, but really, it’s so much better than the alternative of thinking you look hawt, when in fact you look like a fool.
Also, to the tall blonde woman: If your chest is large enough to have it’s own zip code, belting your dress directly underneath your breasts looks like what it is: you’re impressed with your boobs and want everyone else to be as well.
You may as well just wear a Hooters shirt and be done with it.

It’s Mountaineer Week!
Mountaineer Week kicks off with the WVU vs Cincinnati game tonight at 7:00. I’m hoping for more fireworks.
The Craft Fair and Quilt Show start Friday. If anyone wants some WV crafts (wine, honey, pottery etc) let me know. (I’ll see if I can find a list of artists selling their crafts this year.)
And most importantly, there will be funnel cake ALL WEEK!
I actually fell asleep around noon and woke up at 3:30. Michael had been checking on me throughout the day.
Michael: You’re awake! Are you hungry?
Michelle: I don’t know. How did WVU do?
Michael:
Michael: Are they playing?
Michelle: (sigh)
WVU won and it sounds like Pat White (121 yards passing, 109 yards rushing) and Jock Sanders both had an awesome game. And once again the third quarter was our strongest quarter. I have no idea why this is, but it’s been consistently this way for awhile.
It looks like after a rough start to the season (understandably so, considering the coaching changes), we’re finally getting it together. I could wish we would do better in the first quarter, but I’m happier with a team that finishes strong after a weak start, than vice versa.
Also? Michigan lost, and now have a record of 2-7, their first losing season in more than 40 years. Way to go Rich Rod.
As I’ve mentioned before, my house is really close to the stadium. This means I can enjoy not only the drunks, but also the fireworks during night games.
I’ve been trying for years to figure out how to take good pictures of fireworks. My problem this time is I wasn’t sure we were having fireworks at halftime, so I had to run out in my clogs without my tripod or even a jacket.
So between holding the camera over my head and shivering, the shots weren’t too still.
Ah well, I’ll get it eventually.
Yes, it’s time for WVU’s Thursday night home game (as you may have noticed from the previous post.)
It’s 4:45 and traffic going to the stadium has been backed up since I got home around 4:00.
Fun for all!

ADDENDUM the First:
Good Grief.
ADDENDUM the Second:
GROAN.
ADDENDUM the Third:
sigh
ADDENDUM the Fourth:
I’ve resorted to whiskey and chocolate.
ADDENDUM the Fifth:
Yay! Fireworks! They looked awesome from my driveway!
ADDENDUM the Sixth:
93 yard drive! Touchdown! We pull ahead! 20-17!
ADDENDUM the Seventh:
Whew!
ADDENDUM the Eighth:
TOUCHDOWN! Ten point lead! 27-17!
ADDENDUM the Ninth:
TOUCHDOWN for NOEL DEVINE!
33-17!
Over 200 yards for Devine.
ADDENDUM the Tenth:
INTERCEPTION on the LAST PLAY OF THE GAME!
33-17!
GAME OVER!
There are maybe six students in the lab.
The parking lot is maybe a quarter full. Probably less.
Everyone is wandering around going, “Is it time to go yet? Is it time to go yet?”
Y’know. I realize they’re big money, but night games are a disaster educationally. Because we’re so close to the stadium, our parking lots have to be emptied by five, or they’ll start towing. Mind you, we have to pay for parking, so this is a tad bit more than annoying. So a lot of professors simply canceled classes today, so they wouldn’t have to deal with the parking fiasco.
And tomorrow… you think classes will be full tomorrow morning?
Of course that’s not going to stop me from walking home and turning on my radio to enjoy the game.
LET’S GO MOUNTAINEERS!
As I walked up the stairs to work this morning, the smell of fallen leaves was in the air. There were no leaves to crunch underfoot as I walked, because they clean the sidewalks continually here, but that brief whiff of fall brightened my morning.
We don’t need your help.
Really.
We don’t need some script writer to completely lie about the state just because they think it will make a better story.
I mean, when everyone who was there–including the Syracuse players–say events didn’t happen as depicted in your film, and when you couldn’t even bother to get the year of the game right, you’re really not making a movie, “based on a true story,” anymore are you?
Dick Easterly, 69, of Tampa, Fla. was the Syracuse quarterback that day, when Davis rushed 14 times for 125 yards before a sparse crowd of 20,000.
Easterly saw “The Express” at a critics’ preview last week in Tampa.
“I apologize to the people West Virginia because that did not happen,” Easterly said. “I don’t blame people in West Virginia for being disturbed. The scene is completely fictitious.”
My thanks to Dick Easterly, even though he has nothing for which to apologize.
Too bad the individuals who insulted WVU and West Virginia–the script writers and film makers who saw nothing wrong with making out West Virginians as a bunch of ignorant, violent, racist hicks–will never say a word to us.
Between loads of laundry, we went for a walk at the Core Arboretum, to see any color changes in the leaves, and generally enjoy the gorgeous weather.
We walked all the way down to the river, which wasn’t as far as I remembered it being, but it was every bit as steep as I remembered.
There’s still quite a lot of green, but there were some beautiful reds and yellows.

I’m hoping that the team continues to gel, and that Pat White’s hand is in good shape.
ADDENDUM the First:
Halftime 17 – 10.
We missed most of the first half having lunch with Michael’s mom and her husband.
ADDENDUM the Second:
I hate it when Pat White goes down.
ADDENDUM the Third:
Pat White is heading back to the locker room. As much as I hate to see him off the field, I’m glad to see the training staff being proactive about concussions and head injuries.
ADDENDUM the Fourth:
Pat is back on the sideline and looking fine, but out of the game.
As I said before, I hate to see him out of the game, but I’d hate more for him to suffer long term damage from playing with a concussion.
ADDENDUM the Fifth:
It’s now a seven point game.
24 – 17
ADDENDUM the Sixth:
Final = 24 – 17 WVU
ADDENDUM the Seventh:
Coming off the field they just asked Coach Stewart about Pat White, and he said although Pat said he was okay the trainer said no, so Coach Stewart said he’d never ever never put a player on the field when they could get hurt or cause long term damage.
That is awesome. Because no one’s long term health is worth a single game.
West Virginia is in a fiscally sound position to weather the Wall Street storm, said Gov. Joe Manchin.
…
“Our revenues are still exceeding our projections, which is strong in a volatile market,” the governor said Monday. “Like every other state, we won’t escape financial losses from this shakeout. But we’re in good shape to handle it.”
Here’s a quote I found particularly interesting:
“(Manchin) also noted that West Virginia’s banking laws are stricter than the rest of the nation. The state’s only bank failure during the crisis — Ameribank of Welch — was a result of lingering problems in that area from years ago, Manchin said.”
That lingering problem was embezzlement from the First National Bank of Keystone.
See also:
Manchin says his administration’s efforts to pay off nearly $1 billion in debt and the accumulation of $568 million in a rainy day fund have put the state in a good position.
Governor Manchin states, “There’s an old proverb that says it’s better to be careful a hundred times than be killed once.”
As much as I don’t care for Manchin and some of the things he’s tried to do (“Open for Business” anyone?) he has done some things very right. And contributing to the rainy day fun and getting the economy so we’re better off than other states is pretty impressive.
And it’s nice to know that as a state employee, it doesn’t look like job cuts are in the state’s future.
I’ve seen seven people already today sleeping–one sitting straight up at his computer with his hand on the mouse.
And it’s not even midterms!
It starts in just under an hour.
Lets hope this is the game where the team gels!
ADDENDUM the First:
Whew! Still 7 – nothing!
ADDENDUM the Second:
ARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH!
(whew)
ADDENDUM the Third:
Straighten up guys! Penalties are KILLING us!
ADDENDUM the Fourth:
Halftime score is 14 to 3.
Come on guys! Make Pat White look good!
ADDENDUM the Fifth:
WAH! Pat White is off the field with an injury!
ADDENDUM the Sixth:
Final score: 27 to 3
I’ve noticed something interesting over the past several years. WVU seems to play better in the second half than in the first half. The penalties seemed to stop plaguing us in the second half. Special teams seemed to bomb every time they set foot in the field, but the defense really seems to be coming together. I loved how Pat White and Jarret Brown were sharing the quarterbacking, Noel Devine is really starting to look good, but there were still some rough edges to the offense.
So special teams needs some work, and I think they need to give out pushups to everyone who made a stupid penalty, but overall it was a satisfying game.
With all the craziness over my website, I have completely neglected to mention that this week is the Buckwheat Festival!
Local buckwheat is in the stores, and you can head over to Preston County for buckwheat cakes.
Which is what we had for dinner today. Mmmmmm!
