After escaping the crowds at Bridge Day (I love watching the BASE jumpers, but then, so does everyone else), we went to Babcock State Park.
Amusingly, many many other people had the same idea, so by the time we left, the parking lot was overflowing.
Babcock State Park is famous for its grist mill–you’ve probably seen a picture of it.

You had a wait quite awhile to get a picture without people.

One week after our last visit, we were back at the New River Gorge, this time for Bridge Day.
The skies were overcast and grey, but there were still BASE jumpers to watch.

For those of you not from WV, this coming Saturday is Bridge Day. We went last year–and hope to go this year, but were in the area on Saturday so took a brief tour of the area without all the crowds and insanity.
The New River Gorge area is gorgeous, but with the leaves changing, it’s extra pretty.

Last Sunday we went on another hike at Coopers Rock–this time up to Raven Rock.
I came home feeling melancholy, so I didn’t get around to processing the images until today. They’re surprisingly nice (surprisingly, because I was feeling overcast and grey, so that’s how the hike was, in my mind.)

As previously mentioned, we spent Saturday at Blackwater Falls State Park.
While the toddlers were napping, we got out and took a hike, which was lovely. And we didn’t even go to the main falls this trip.

Saw some unusual things yesterday.
I would like to note those are VIRGINIA license plates, not WV.

My birthday gift was a wide-angle lens for my camera, so this morning we drove to Tygart Lake to see if I could find anything to photograph.
It needed a tripod, but I wasn’t hiking with one. All in all, not too bad for my first tries.

I’ve always been fascinated by reflections: mirrors, lakes, puddles, you name it. I love the world I can see through these reflections, so like our own, but yet different.
Valley Falls had lots and lots of still water for catching reflections.

Yup. There were some rhododendron blooming. I was shocked too.

Saturday, we went to Valley Falls State Park. We had a great hike on the Rocky Trail, however, it was steeper than I’d expected, and a little rough on my ankle.
But despite the lovely hike, what I liked best were walking along the falls.

We had a nice hike around the WV Botanic Garden.

Flowers at both the WV Botanic Garden and my house.
