Questions from the Peanut Gallery

OK, since I’m still running low on creativity, I’ll begin to answer the questions that were posted to me. I’ll probably keep taking questions through the week, so feel free to ask other questions in the comments.

Nathan asks:

Where’s my toaster?
Last I heard, MWT had one of your toasters, but it wasn’t the toaster, unless that was a ploy to throw everyone off. My guess would be that Jim took the toaster after killing Eric.

So I’d march right up to Jim and demand my toaster back if I were you.

Alternately, John has visited you twice. And you know how those Pitt graduates can be.

Who’s that hiding behind your couch?
Kat and Kit. Duh.

What’s your position on Graham Crackers?
Good smeared with with peanut butter and dipped in milk.

Yum!

John asks:

Just how confused was the West Virginian in Jefferson County whom I noticed had set the horn in his bondo and primer-decorated truck to play “Dixie”?

Very. He’s obviously one of the fools who saw the Dukes of Hazaard movie and thought it was not only good, but also worth emulating. (A friend watched a neighbor’s son hand paint his jeep after watching that movie.)

y’all realize y’all came out on top of the Recent Unpleasantness Between the States, right?

Sometimes we have to remind some of our souther brethren of this fact.

Rather forcefully.

I know West Virginia is where the men are men, but just how scared do the sheep run?

Actually, last month I almost wrecked the car as we drove past the University farm, because I was trying to see the cute baby sheep.

So not very.

Just when are you going to drink that soup?

When I’m starving to death and there is absolutely nothing left to eat. I’m thinking it might work well in an emergency pack in the car.

Sunday Flower Pr0n

Not much new is blooming, but the Black Eyed Susans are absolutely gorgeous, and there are new sunflowers every time I look.

Still Running on Empty

Sorry, but twice in one week I’ve got nothing for you.

It’s been a long two weeks at work, I’m still a bit freaked out after my encounter with 27″ TV Guy, and today was the last weekend before students come back, so we did a lot of stocking up ($400 split between cleaning supplies and sundries at Target and groceries at Giant Eagle kind of stocking up.) Add running Grandmom around to that, and the laundry that needs done, and I’m burnt out.

My creative engines are out of gas.

In the meantime, I’ll steal a page from Janiece and MWT and Eric and let you ask me questions if you so desire. Ask anything you want, but realize you’ll only be getting PG-13 answers. :)

Let’s Dive Into the Stats!

Here are some search terms from just this month!

how do i sign mountain dew in american sign language
My guess would be to vibrate until you’re a blur.

pissy
You’ve come to the right place.

jewish folktale grandfather and the wooden bowl
I’ve read multiple versions of that tale. I think it crosses ethnic boundaries.

ook librarian
My favorite too!

things that make guys mad
My guess is 1) running out of beer and 2) women.

former yugoslavia senses working overtime
OK, I could understand if those were two separate searches, but a single search? What on earth were they really looking for? Did XTC do a Yugoslavia album?

please leave message picture
I’m trying to imagine what kind of picture that would be… and failing.

Friday Cat Blogging

I’ve been playing around with photoshop, so see if I can take indoor pictures of the cats without the flash (so Kat doesn’t close his eyes on every picture) [And also because I need to learn these tools in Photoshop.]. I need also to play with the settings on the camera, but the problem is that a long exposure means I get a furry blur.

Here’s what I got this week:

kit

kit

I liked Kit’s facial expression here, but the more I lightened the picture, the blurrier it got.

Kat

Kat thinks my bathrobe is the best thing in the world, so if I sit down after showering, he’s in my lap begging to be petted. I took this picture holding the camera out from my body and hoping I’d get him in the picture.

Kat

This is the normal look we get from him. Slightly disgruntled and annoyed.

You can see the originals in my Flickr account.

This Day Just Keeps Getting Better and Better

Five or six years ago Michael and I changed the wiring in the basement, and one result was that two separate switches were combined into a single switch box. Now because this is the basement, it’s just screwed into the cinder blocks, and is not inset into the wall.

This morning when I was putting on my coat I sliced my thumb on the metal light switch cover badly enough it required a band-aid.

This evening after I came back from the grocery store, while taking my jacket off I managed to slice my pointer finger badly enough that Michael had to come in from mowing the lawn and help me put a pressure bandage on it.

I think maybe I’ll just go to bed now.

Ack!

OK.

(deep breath)

I just had to bounce 27″ TV guy from the lab again. He’s 6’3″ and about 260 and is even further gone than he was last time I had to throw him out.

I didn’t call DPS to report the incident, although I did make everyone area of what had happened, and tell them if he came back they were to call GPS to have him escorted out.

But still.

Is this week over yet?

ADDENDUM:
I called DPS and they now have a copy of his non-Driver’s License.

The Internet Thinks I’m a Boy

Likelihood of you being FEMALE is 47%
Likelihood of you being MALE is 53%

Site Male-Female Ratio
google.com 0.98
facebook.com 0.83
cnn.com 1.35
imdb.com 1.06
merriam-webster.com 0.89
usaa.com 1.08

Okay, it really thinks I’m a hermaphrodite.

I don’t think that’s better.

Using your browser URL history to estimate gender

I want to note it does not check frequency of visits or duration of visits, because my most frequently visited site is http://www.wunderground.com/US/WV/Morgantown.html

Here are the stats for my home laptop:
Likelihood of you being FEMALE is 60%
Likelihood of you being MALE is 40%

Site Male-Female Ratio
amazon.com 0.9
imdb.com 1.06
flickr.com 1.15
nytimes.com 1.13
gmail.com 0.9
gardeners.com 0.6

Apparently men don’t shop at Gardener’s. Too bad I had to order more compost bags and filters–they ruined my stats!

But if I delete Garderner’s from my history:

Likelihood of you being FEMALE is 47%
Likelihood of you being MALE is 53%

Site Male-Female Ratio
amazon.com 0.9
imdb.com 1.06
flickr.com 1.15
nytimes.com 1.13
gmail.com 0.9

I get the exact same ratio I had on my work computer.

Speaking of Brain Dead

It’s been a long two weeks. I got nothing for you, except that I can’t wait until this week is over. I’ve been mulling over a post about Hillary supporters for awhile now, but can’t seem to get up the gumption to write it.

So instead, come on in, grab some cookies and/or beer, and tell me how things have been going.

This means you Gina and Susan. ;) And Becky, I know you’re taking the quizzes. Come on in and chat for awhile!

(And now I feel like a stalker, except can you really stalk your own website?)

Self-Administered Loot

Nathan asked, “Any chance you’re going to tell us what was out of stock but is now on the way?”

And I warned him that it was geeky loot, and most people probably wouldn’t be amused.

Too bad! I’m amused!

I ordered….

Why that would be ME!

I just got to tell some woman her baby (NOT crying) was too loud and disturbing people.

Past Polls

By the way, if you’ve missed a poll, you can go to the Polls Archive and take older polls there.

You can also comment on polls there, and the comment will appear in the comment list.

Also, I’m willing to take suggestions for polls–I’m sure I’ll eventually run low on subjects. So if there is something out there you really want to know, suggest it either here or in e-mail–but it’s gotta be PG-13. (No tentacles Tania.)

Now THIS Is a Surprise Package

Sorry Nathan and John, but y’all lose out to the loot I got today:

Maple Syrup from Canada

MAPLE SYRUP! From our enemy to the north–I mean Kim!

Michael decided to make pancakes for dinner, just for the occasion.

Mmmm! Pancakes! With maple syrup! Yummy!
