“Then a hero comes along, or gets called in, every age has heroes lying around somewhere, and he or she kills me.”

“And then?”

“I’m dead.” Fafnir blinked at him, taking his hands back when the waitress returned with the curry.

Again, Hermes waited patiently until she had left them. “I know that, smartass. But you’re not dead now. What happens after you’re dead?”

“I don’t really know. I’m dead.”

Eris used a laser pointer to indicate the first small bar on the screen. “So, Pikuolis, the conflict in the Ukraine doesn’t seem to be turning into a worldwide conflict like you hoped. Very low casualties, overall. Are you withdrawing?”

The bearded man scowled. “Not yet. There are things to try still.”
