Monday Monday

Why is it that three day weekends are never long enough?

I finished three books this weekend, yet still I wish I had another day off. Probably because I did nothing to the garden this weekend, and with temps already in the 80s, it’s going to be hot when I do get to it.

Of course the nice thing about having an established garden is that I’ve plenty of perennials to come up on their own, and the soil has been worked enough to make things easy on me, so it’s not difficult to weed, just time consuming.

Perhaps one evening this week I’ll work in the garden, but since I have fresh rhubarb and need to make something with it–probably not.

My Fabulous Weekend, Part III: Jungle Jim’s & My Friends

So the reason we go to Cincinnati is because my friends live there: Susan, and Andy & Heather and their absolutely adorable kids (you saw the fantastic Natalie in the aquarium pictures).

And the other reason is of course Jungle Jim’s. Let’s just say I spent about $100 an hour there, and leave it at that.

Susan met us at our hotel. Well, actually she was sitting in the hotel bar, drinking Guinness and waiting for us.

Random Amusement from Around the Web

Nerd, Geek, Dork diagram

As we already know, I am a geek. And proud of it.

The following is absolutely fabulous.

And accurate.

Pain Chart

0: Hi. I am not experiencing any pain at all. I don’t know why I’m even here.

1: I am completely unsure whether I am experiencing pain or itching or maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth.

2: I probably just need a Band Aid.

3: This is distressing. I don’t want this to be happening to me at all.

4: My pain is not fucking around.

5: Why is this happening to me??

6: Ow. Okay, my pain is super legit now.

7: I see Jesus coming for me and I’m scared.

8: I am experiencing a disturbing amount of pain. I might actually be dying. Please help.

9: I am almost definitely dying.

10: I am actively being mauled by a bear.

11: Blood is going to explode out of my face at any moment.

Too Serious For Numbers: You probably have ebola. It appears that you may also be suffering from Stigmata and/or pinkeye.

Please go to the site for the original post. Because there is more funny there.

The English Language Is Awesome

And full of awesome words.

Here are some recent words of the day I’ve been meaning to write about.

transmogrify \transs-MAH-gruh-fye\ verb
: to change or alter greatly and often with grotesque or humorous effect

That’s right, transmogrify is actually a word. I always assumed it was something Bill Watterson made up.

I’m delighted to discover I was wrong.

zaftig \ZAHF-tig\ adjective
: having a full rounded figure : pleasingly plump

This is a word that needs to be used far more frequently.

Far more frequently.

saxicolous \sak-SIK-uh-lus\ adjective
: inhabiting or growing among rocks

This looks like a capatcha that we’d define as: “fabulous sax music” but instead it’s something boring.

Augean stable \aw-JEE-un-STAY-bul\ noun
: a condition or place marked by great accumulation of filth or corruption

This term should come up far more frequently when describing the Internet or politics, but it never does.

Creating a Cover

Creating Blameless

I first looked at this because I quite liked “Soulless” and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

However, this is worth watching because it’s fascinating to watch a cover being created.
