You’d Think They’d Never Seen Snow Before

My Dad came by to take my grandmother to get her blood drawn today, but once he got here decided the weather was too bad and they’d try again later.

Which is the background for this phone conversation.

Michelle: Hi Dad, wanted to let you know you left your keys in my door.
Dad: Oh. THAT’S where they are. I’ll be right over to get them.
Michelle: No you won’t.

Brain Scour

Just saw a pudgy dental student step away from one of the computers, and then zip up his pants.

I am desperately hoping that he just noticed that his zipper was undone, and NOT that something untoward was happening.

Time Wasting

And boy is it.

Meez 3D avatar avatars games

See: Meez

So, my living room is white with lavender-gray trim, and I sit on the sofa, not the floor, and their idea of curly hair isn’t very. But otherwise, not too bad.

Well, that and my shirts are never that low cut.

ADDENDUM the First:

I’m not really as insane as I sound–when I went back to play with the image, the changes were automatically reflected here. Original image was me sitting on the floor typing on a laptop.

Hair Today

So my excitement for today was that I got my hair cut. For most people, this isn’t a big deal. However, I have somewhat difficult hair, and this fall I discovered that the woman who cut my hair–and two other women–left the salon where I got my haircut, and I had no idea where she went, nor did my friends who got their hair cut by by those women.

After several months, we discovered that they had opened their own salon, after a less than amicable parting with their former salon owner, while in the interim, I ended up getting my hair cut somewhere else. This haircut reminded me why I willing pay $35 for a haircut, and kept going back to Rachel again and again–she listened to me, paid attention to the quirks of my hair, and we eventually discovered a good cut for my hair. When I attempted to explain the main point of what needed to be done to my hair to the interim woman (the hair at the nape of my next comes in straight, and tends to grow faster than the rest of my hair, so it has to be cut much shorter than the rest of my hair) she ignored me, and although she didn’t give me a bad haircut, it wasn’t a good haircut, because she didn’t address the issues with my hair I specifically mentioned.

Thus, I was delighted when I discovered that Rachel was in a new salon, and I could have her cut my hair again. So today I again have a good haircut, which will hopefully keep me from looking like a wild woman who accidentally stuck her finger in an electric socket, for the next couple months.

And if you think I exaggerate about my hair, here is a snippet of conversation between me and Michael this evening.

Michael: I’m just saying.
Me: You’re not just saying. You’re saying, saying saying.
Michael: That’s because I have to get it through your hair. Head. I mean head. I meant head.
Me: Nice Freudian slip.

Today’s Presentation Walkby

The History of Pain

I’m beginning to wonder precisely what they are teaching these dental students.

(First person with the appropriate response gets bonus points)

ADDENDUM the First:
Here’s Erin’s comment, because it’s too good for you to miss.

To be a success!

♫”‘Oh, that hurts! Wait! I’m not numb!’
‘Eh, Shut Up! Open Wide! Here I Come!’♫

♫”I am your dentist.
And I enjoy the career that I picked.
I’m your dentist.
And I get off on the pain I inflict!”♫

***

♫”Your temperament’s wrong for the priesthood,
And teaching would suit you still less.
Son, be a dentist.
You’ll be a success.”♫

ADDENDUM the Second:
By the way, my initial response to seeing “The History of Pain” was “Life is pain highness, anyone who tells you differently is selling something.”

My second response was “NOT TO FIFTY!

Things I Never Want to Learn

Just passed a student looking at a slide entitled:

“Lymphatic drainage of the tongue”

Though that was less disturbing than the dental student presentations with rotted teeth and other oral disorders.

How about Haggis?

Michael needs his hair cut. Let’s see what we can find. Is that under hair in the phone book? (Flips through yellow pages.) Publishers, Optometrists, Monuments, Lawyers, Lawyers, Lawyers, Kilts… waitasecond… did that say kilts? Yes. Yes it did. There’s a heading for kilts in the Morgantown yellow pages.

I’m It

8 Interesting/Random things about yourself…

Random is easy. Interesting? We’ll have to see.

1. I love to bake. Especially cookies and brownies. But I don’t like cake, unless it’s carrot cake, molten lava cake, or soaked in alcohol cake.

2. I acknowledge my geekiness and revel in it. Random quotes from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Firefly? Got it. Love of computers and geeky toys? Yup. Love watching science fiction and comic book movies? Yup. Ability to wax enthusiastic for hours about movies I love? Sure thing. T-shirts with strange and esoteric sayings? Got ’em. But you know what? It’s a lot of fun to be a geek, once you get out of high school.

3. I have almost 2000 books in my house–primarily paperbacks. And I have several hundred dollars in credit from the used book store, from books I’ve “sold” back. But I dislike reading science fiction.

4. I like to do laundry. I find it satisfying to turn a pile of dirty clothes into a neat folded pile of clean clothes. But no, I won’t do your laundry. It’s not the same.

5. I hate to be tickled. Really hate it. You may get punched if you try to tickle me. And I’m a pacifist.

6. I am terrible at simple math and spelling and can’t do either in my head. In fact, trying to make me do either will possibly cause me to burst into tears.

7. Years ago I was at a Tom Petty concert with my friend Mary, when a very drunk/stoned/high man started talking to us, and then suddenly looked at me and asked, “Who’s been beating you?” He had noticed a scar on my lower lip that I’d gotten as a child (jumping on the bed if you must know) that no one else had ever noticed or commented on before. Why he thought I was the type to take abuse, I’ll never know.

8. My heritage is half Eastern-European (Lithuanian and Polish), one quarter Canadian, and one quarter mutt. I am third generation American on the Eastern European side, second generation American (USA) for the Canadian part, and who knows about the mutt portion. Perhaps because of this, I strongly believe in the American dream, and the responsibility of citizenship.

Cat Truth

The truest thing I’ve seen about cats.

With photographic evidence.

1. If there is a piece of paper on a surface a cat is required to sit on it…
