My grandmother’s 90th birthday party was a resounding success!
She got to see lots of people, some of whom she hadn’t seen in years, she got some great gifts, including dashley (sp?) and vinitus. My desserts went well (yay for homemade oreos) and in general every had a great time. Plus Eric and Logan appeared with the twins, and since there were two babies, everyone who wants to hold a baby got to.
Michael took almost 200 pictures, so it may take me a few days to sort through them. But I’ll get some pictures up eventually.
Got to spend the evening with Liz and Math and his g/f Janna as we went to Wegmans, and Liz continued to rave about how much she loves the place. I told her that we MUST take a trip to Cincinnati so she can experience Jungle Jim’s.
The twins were christened the next day, and there was a small get together afterwards. So I got to spend lots of time with my family, which was wonderful.
All in all, it was a fantastic–although tiring–weekend.
I’m a LIBRARIAN! OOK!

…To feed to my Tyrannosaurus Rex.
That’s been running though my brain since I first started reading John Scalzi’s LOLdinosaurs thread (well, there are other things there, but the dino’s are the funniest.)
My favorite? See below:

Sorry you all have been getting mostly single paragraph updates recently. There have been happenings around here. Nothing good, but nothing that really affected me directly. Just things that suck up huge amounts of time. On a positive note, my mood has been good enough right now that I was able to handle the issues that came up without stressing out or getting extremely upset. This is excellent news, because it means I may have my depression under control–at least for not.
Still not ready to go off my meds though. My mood hasn’t been stable long enough.
Additionally, I’ve been writing every weekday morning. I’m up to chapter 18 (page 49 of 85) so I’m at about the halfway point till I can start writing new material. (It’s been long enough that I desperately needed this editing fest because I’ve forgotten many details. Bonus: coherency is good.)
I’ve also been reading. Once my grandmother comes back, we’ll be watching DVDs most nights, so I’m enjoying the last of my quiet evenings. Of course I also can’t wait to get back to the first season of Heroes. We told her we wouldn’t watch anymore till she came back, and I’m more than ready to find out what happened.
As far as books, if you like mysteries, I highly recommend C.S. Harris‘ Sebastian St Cyr series. And if you like fantasy with your mysteries, I also am enjoying Tamara Siler Jones‘ Dubric series.
And I’m getting ready for Grandmom’s party this weekend. So far: apple pie in the freezer and the cookie part of the oreos are done. Tomorrow: carrot cake cupcakes. Friday: Bake pie, fill cookies, frost cupcakes. And somehow resist eating any of these baked delights.
But mostly, I’m happy and content, and just haven’t wanted to spend time outside of work on the computer.
So sorry bout the lack of updates. But not really.
Happy 90th Birthday Grandmom

John Scalzi finally went to the Creation Museum. Essay AND a photo set with snarky comments!
My favorite part is “vegetarian dinosaurs.”
This is one of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes cartoons.
I kinda take it as life guidance.

It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt.
— John Philpot Curran Speech upon the Right of Election (1790)
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Michael: If you want, we can get you a new sewing machine.
Michelle: I’d rather have a new laptop.
Michael: And that’s why I love you.
I just realized that the time on my recent posts is off by an hour. I wasn’t actually on the computer at 12:30 this morning. And I was on my computer at 7 AM Thursday morning.
Time to go poke around the guts of the website.
Poke. Poke. Poke.
Just got back from seeing Nickel Creek for their Farewell for Now tour.
As always their show was excellent, but I have to say a part of me longed for the first show I saw: they played in the Mountainlair Ballrooms, there weren’t a ton of people, there was plenty of space to get up and dance, and they played for more than two hours–loose sets that they made up as they went along.
But it was a fantastic show, and you should see them if you have the chance–before it’s too late.
Pat White is still my favorite–possible all time favorite–WVU player.
Announcer: Pat White just did a somersault on the sidelines, trying to convince Coach Kearns he was okay to go back in the game.
My dreams last night involved walking up hill, all night long. It was if Eighth Street took over the entire world.
