Byzantium (1996) Stephen R. Lawhead
By all rights I should love this book. It’s set in ancient times, in this case it starts in ancient Ireland not too long after Christianity has taken hold of the land. The writing is good. The main character is well developed.
But I just can’t get into it.
150 pages in, the book still hasn’t gripped me. And I’m having a hard time caring what happens to Aidan. Sure he’s a nice guy, and he’s trying to be a good guy as well, but… I just can’t make myself care.
So I’ll set it aside for now–maybe pick it up to read in the evenings before I go to sleep, to see if I can get into it. And we’ll see what happens.
