Alex spent years hiding from his past. Finally, he started to reach out, to make friends, but his past has come roaring back with a vengeance.

What I particularly liked about this story is that Alex’s past came back to do more than haunt him–and that he couldn’t talk his way out of it.

Additionally, the bad guys not only didn’t see themselves as bad guys–they were somewhat justified in seeing themselves as good guys.

The story was a lesson in what happens when you are unable to forgive, and become obsessed with revenge–and also that forgiveness is something you have to grant yourself when those you wronged are unwilling to.

This is also a book I had not previously read, so I was surprised I was able to keep listening. It could be that I’m less invested in this series than I have been in others, or perhaps I’m becoming more patient?

Or, I just have a lot of chores I need to do, so I had plenty of time to listen.
