Neither Ann nor Saunder what anything to do with Alex after he dealt with the adepts trying to kill him.

He doesn’t necessarily blame them, but he had told them him past, and it was up to them to believe him–or not.

I think the problem I had with the story was not how Ann and Saunder reacted at the beginning of the story, but Ann’s reaction at the end of the story. Alex told her some pretty unpalatable truths, and she dealt with them far better than she had with Alex’s actions in the previous book.
