Valediction , Audio Book (1984) Robert B. Parker narrated by Michael Prichard (Spenser)
Spenser continues to unravel as Susan moves to California to work.
And starts seeing someone else.
Paul is staying with Spenser for summer break, and suggests Spenser take a case for the director of the dance company Paul is working for. A dancer has been kidnapped and the director wants his lover back.
But she’s in a cult and her lover claims she’s being held there by force, so Spenser makes a nuisance of himself to find out if she is where she wants to be.
This is a story where Spenser sees what he wants to, and that gets him into trouble.
What gets him into bigger trouble is that with Susan gone, and his continued guilt over the death of Candy Sloan, Spenser doesn’t much care if he lives or dies.
