Do Me a Favor (2024) Cathy Yardley

Do Me a FavorWilla, still picking up the pieces after her husband’s long illness and death, moves out to the house she inherited from her great-aunt, in the hopes it will help her get back on her feet.

What was it going to do to her? Her bank account was minuscule and her future uncertain, and while she’d been diligently chipping away at the medical debt . . . let’s face it, she was bailing a battleship with a teaspoon.

Hudson has spent his life on the island, never able to move away after unexpectedly becoming a father–and soon after that a single parent. He is easily able to find company for the night, but hasn’t dated since the twins started school.

“I can take care of it,” she countered. “I don’t . . .”

“I can’t tell you how many times I had to do this for the kids,” he said, sidetracking her argument and shepherding her against the counter. “I’m a pro, basically.”

She looked a cross between confused and amused. “Practically a doctor.”

I really like Kathy Yardly’s stories. I love that she writes about middle-aged protagonists, about people who have lived life but are still making discoveries.

Willa continued. Not in a superior way, but almost like someone who really geeked out about something and wanted you to somehow be just as enthusiastic as she was.

I just wish the boinking bits were easier to skip.
