Set in alternative Victorian England

“I’m flattered. She has actually employed an assassin?”

“Yes,” the man said in a dire tone.

“And does this assassin have a name?”

“Eduardo de Luca.”

“Italian,” Cecilia said, disappointment withering each syllable.

“You need to be a bit older before you can attract a proper assassin, my dear,”

“The countryside is rife with scurvy.”

“That is caused by fruit deprivation, Aunty.”

“Precisely! Do you see any orchards out there?”

“But, Aunty,” Cecilia said, “you shouldn’t be out here. It’s dangerous.”

“I am a pirate terror, my dear.”

“Yes, but it’s also cold. You’ll catch pneumonia.”

“Nonsense. Pneumonia is only for young ladies whose aunts wish to repress them so that they never become independent and leave said aunts alone.”
