Because the post that is going to go up one minute after this was is depressing, here’s something a little more cheerful.

How can a happy cat not make you feel just a tiny bit better?

There’s been a cat wandering around the neighborhood all summer. She belongs to someone in the neighborhood who foolishly allows her to wander free.

Why foolishly? Because I live on a very busy road, where cars speed by day and night. Perhaps they don’t realize she wanders as far as she does. At least I hope. Because I’d hate to think someone would place their pet into danger on purpose.

And why do I say “she”? Because Kat doesn’t freak out horrifically when she wanders by, and he has pitched loud, hissy, and somewhat frightening fits when other cats have wandered by in the past.

So why the pictures? Because she has a beautiful and unusual pattern and coloring.

Here she is making herself at home in our yard.

Yes, Kat is the more photogenic of the two. He also doesn’t blend into the floors the way she does, although that’s not a problem here in the basement.

We apologize, but we are unable to entertain you today.

I am unable to be entertaining because the cat ate my mouse.
I am unable to be entertaining because 12 pounds of cat is demanding my attention.
I am unable to be entertaining because the cat got behind my computer and pulled out all the plugs.
I am unable to be entertaining because I cannot see my computer screen.

Once you have selected your desired excuse, please move into the lounge and relax until entertainment returns.

Anyway, the point is that I have no new pictures of Kat and Kit, so instead I’m giving you pictures of Slate.

Slate was my parents outside cat, and at 17 decided she was NOT going to be an outside cat anymore. Since my mom refused to have an inside cat, Slate came to live with us. Kat and Kit were not happy with this turn of events, but as Slate did little more than lie on our laps to be petted, and sleep, it wasn’t that much of a hardship.

She died at the age of 18.

Why is she pointing that the flashy thing at me?

Stop following me!

OK. Fine. If I sit still will you stop bothering me?

OK. I’ll hold my chin up and look cute, but this is the very last picture. I mean it.

Kit is in trouble with Grandmom. Her furriness did not come upstairs at all today to talk to Grandmom, so when we got home, Grandmom was yelling down the stairs asking if the cats were ok, since she hadn’t seen them all day.

With that, Kit went sauntering up the stairs.

So why was Kit in the basement? Let’s go back to Saturday night. There were two sets of fireworks Friday night, on different sides of town, and we’re just enough in the middle that we couldn’t see either though we heard both. Though I was hoping we could see the ones they were shooting off downtown.

Why were there fireworks? Would you believe for my Dad’s birthday? No. My aunt didn’t believe that either. They were for MountainFest.

So at 9:45 the fireworks start. I jump up so I can run outside to see if we can see anything. Kit, on the other hand, jumps up to run away and hide, because she hates loud noises. Since we were both dashing in the same direction, Kit freaks out even more and runs into the stone elephant doorstop in her rush to get into the basement.

And knocks the doorstop down the stairs after herself, where it ended up crashing on the cement floor and breaking.

We didn’t see her again until late Sunday morning, and even then she was skittish.

Why that kept her from coming upstairs today to be fed treats from Grandmom, I have no idea. But she’s following Grandmom around now and chirping away as if she didn’t have a care in the world.

ADDENDUM the First:
Some stupid neighbor set off fire crackers. Who knows where she is now.

For all his brutish tendencies, I still sometimes see Kat doing something and squeal, “He’s so cute!”

When he’s sleeping I try to squeal quietly.

Kit gets some attention this week.

But she has to share the spotlight with Michael on his birthday.

And with Grandmom, just because.

Kit pays very close attention to Grandmom throughout the day, for times like this, when Grandmom doles out the treats.

Once again, Kat steals the show.

I also shot some flower pr0n, but Kat seems more appropriate on a Friday.

Came home from work today to find that Kat and Kit had received a package from Tania–I mean Skulker and Orphelia!

Boy were they excited!
