I Should Really Be Asleep

But I’m obviously not.

We went to see Wanted, and were the only people in the theater. (15 minutes of commercials/previews, but the movie was five minutes late getting started. Perhaps the projectionist was off doing something untoward.)

First, I KNOW better than to sit so close to the screen. 3/4 of the way back is best, but we sat more like halfway back, so towards the end of the movie I started to get motion sick.

BAH.

Despite that, we both liked it. Michael liked that he had no idea at any point where the hell the story was going. I liked the ending.

And the car chases.

And the fight scenes.

Why is it that the things I like best are the things that make me motion sick? Stupid brain.

Would I have wanted to pay full price to see Wanted? Probably not. But matinée prices were perfectly fine. (Do I remember the last movie I paid full price for? No. So take that under advisement.)

It also reminded me that we never made it to see Shoot ‘Em Up, which I also wanted to see.

Now I really need to try to go to sleep because I’ve got a very long day ahead of me, and another long day on Friday.

Busy Busy Busy

Another busy morning at work, and then Michael and I are taking the afternoon off. Probably going to go to the movies, but who knows for sure?

Why today? Because this is pretty much the last chance for him to take any time off until after the semester starts.

Feel free to entertain yourselves in the interim. Just don’t leave any beer bottles on the floor where my grandmother might trip over them.

Two things:
1) Appalling!
2) 27″ TV Guy

Discuss.

Plans for Today

Our plans are to go to the movies and see Hellboy.

Keep your fingers crossed for us, that we actually make it there.

ADDENDUM the First:
20 minutes of commercials and previews. Grr. Though at $5.75 for a ticket, guess I can’t complain that much.

It was fun.

We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, especially since there were only a handful of other people in the theater, so we had the WHOLE ROW to ourselves AND no one sat in front of us! WHEEEE!!!!

I think it was comparable to the first, in that it didn’t take itself at all seriously and was silly in all the right places. I could have done without the singing, but hey, nothing’s perfect.

As usual, my favorite parts were the fight scenes. The guy who played the elf was very good, and I liked how his extra abilities made him seem even less human, even though they were things you see in all the fun kung fu movies.

So my opinion? Fun!

And very different from Iron Man, which we saw last weekend, which I also liked a lot, but in a very different way.

Poll for Uber-Geeks

What is the coolest starship?

OK, so, I’ve actually had this discussion with myself. Let us say no more about that.

My biggest problem is that they are missing all kinds of ships. No Moya from Farscape. No Star Furies from Babylon 5. And most importantly, no Defiant from DS9. How are we supposed to determine the coolest starship when they have all these gaping holes in their poll?

Jeesh!

Oh, my ranking for coolest ships?

Defiant
Moya
Serenity
Millennium Falcon
Nebuchadnezzar

Last Amusement During Lunch

Along the lines of the Evil Overlord list:

Things I Will Do If I Am Ever the Vampire

3. The Hero will come armed with holy water, a cross and a stake. I will come armed with a 5.56 mm assault rifle and grenades. If the Hero has to cross open ground, there is no better way to reach out and touch someone than with a sniper rifle.

Michelle’s Top Movies

Coming around full circle, Jeri posted her son’s list of “classic” movies.

Now I won’t even claim to even know a classic movie if it bit me on the nose. But I do have some all time favorite movies.

So, in no particular order, some of my favorite movies:

Lost Boys
Arsenic & Old Lace
The Matrix
Star Wars
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
The Princess Bride
Boondock Saints
Batman Begins
Fight Club
The Fifth Element
The Italian Job
Iron Monkey
Monty Python: Search for the Holy Grail

No, I don’t much like dramas. Why do you ask?

And for comparison, movies I quote the most:

The Princess Bride
Singles
Search for the Holy Grail
Airplane

Yes, really. Singles. Though really, TV shows get quoted a lot more around here, especially “Firefly” and “Deep Space 9”

The Pit of Despair

I’m feeling cruddy, and was looking for a picture of “The Pit of Despair” to describe how I was feeling today, when I got distracted and found a Princess Bride quiz.

Surprising no one, I’m Valerie.

Friday. Yay.

The part of the conversation I can here.

Michael: Hi! What’s up?
Michael: No, I’m not on pager duty this week.
Michael: Well, I have pick up the dinner we ordered in fifteen minutes.
Michael: I could drive down to the office after that.

(sigh)

Well, he’s on the phone trying to get out of it now.

ADDENDUM the First:
Ya! He doesn’t have to go anywhere! Now our evening of finishing watching season one of Heroes will not be ruined! (Four episodes left!)

Hawoozahwah?

Holy crap.

We just finished watching the episode “Distractions” from the first season of Heroes. Somehow, my grandmother (who loves this show and was upset we didn’t watch an episode last night) managed to sleep through the entire episode, including me and Michael continually yelling, “WHAT?!” and “YOU’RE KIDDING!” and “HOLY SHIT HE JUST THREW HIM OFF A BUILDING AND HE’S NOT FLYING!”
Now that is an amazing ability to sleep.

Unfortunately, she’s going to be really sorry tomorrow when she has NO idea what is going on.

And I can’t believe we only have 9 episodes left to watch. Don’t know what we’re going to watch after this… Though if Grandmom is going to start sleeping through shows again, maybe we can watch Battlestar Galactica and just hope she sleeps through all the boinking.

Yes, We Really Are That Geeky

(watching Heroes)

Michelle: Hey! I recognize him! Wasn’t he one of the Vedeks?
Michael: Yeah, you’re right. He was.
Michelle: Which one? I can’t place it, except that he was cranky.
Michael: Was it the one about the vipers?
Michelle: YES! That’s it!

Plus? He was on Babyon 5. He played the rabbi.

Nathan Pitrelli = Mitchell Hundred?

Maybe it’s just me, but while watching Heroes this evening, I was shocked to discover that Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) looks a lot like how Mitchell Hundred (Ex Machina) is drawn.

MItchell Hundred

Nathan Pitrelli

Do you see it? Or is it just me? How about this?
Perhaps it’s just the parallels between the two characters, but still…
