I’d completely forgotten I had several of these audiobooks. Since historicals and mysteries are mostly what I’m in the mood for, I was delighted to start listening to a series I know I enjoy.

The kitchen’s range was neatly fitted into what had been a large fireplace, the stove high enough that I wouldn’t have to stoop or kneel to cook. I’d had to kneel on hard stones at one house—where I hadn’t stayed long—and it had taken some time for my knees and back to recover.

I just came across a review that said they didn’t finish the story–because there was too much about food.

I mean, she’s a cook! What on earth were they expecting? The cooking is one of my favorite things about this series!

Mrs. Rigby and I made extra rolls and cakes after we’d finished those for the guests, intended for Mrs. Coombe, her nearest neighbor, who was poorly, Mrs. Rigby said. Having eleven children was part of the reason of her decline, in Mrs. Rigby’s opinion, and I could not disagree.
