Fortune Favors the Dead, Audio Book (2020) Stephen Spotswood narrated by Kirsten Potter (Pentecost and Parker Mystery #1)
Set in NYC in 1945
“I trust you to use your best judgment. Don’t do anything you aren’t comfortable doing.”
“You realize I used to dress up like a showgirl and have knives thrown at my face. My threshold for uncomfortable is pretty high.”
That’s the way it is with most mysteries. There are always more questions than answers. Few things wrap up nice and tight like they do in my dime-store novels.
“Honey, sometimes I forget how young you are,” he said, still grinning. “I’m saying that he was a confirmed bachelor in the way I’m a confirmed bachelor.”
“Please sit wherever you’re most comfortable.”
I was tempted to go outside and sit in the car, that being the most comfortable of available options.
