Croak (2012) Gina Damico

Why why why do I keep picking up books that turn out to be first in a series? I don’t WANT to read first in a series. I want to read stand-alone books.

Bah humbug.

Lex used to be a good girl, just like her twin Cordy. But then something happened and she’s now beat up most of the people in the school and lashes out at everyone in her family–except for Cordy.

With a week left, the principal of her school holds off on expelling her after her parents explain she’ll be spending the summer with her uncle, in the hopes he can calm her down.

Somehow.

I actually liked the relationship between Lex and Cordy, and how even though Lex couldn’t explain what was happening to her, she still had her sister as an anchor.

This is a YA book that recognizes that teenagers drink and boink and do other things they shouldn’t. And are snarky. Can’t forget the snark.

But there isn’t any boinking, and it’s an interesting look at the rage that I believe many teens feel at the world–sometimes without any discernible reason.

Only strike against this book is that there was almost no resolution. And I hate that.
Rating: 5/10 for lack of resolution; 7.5/10 otherwise.
