Kitty’s House of Horrors (2010) Carrie Vaughn

Kitty–and several others–agree to be on a supernatural reality show, but all have suspicious as to what the producers are really planning.

“Okay. Fine. You know why horror-movie characters always get killed? Because they’ve never seen horror movies. They don’t know how it works. Right? But we do. So no one go into the basement alone. No one go screaming off into the woods alone. No one has any sex.”

Tina and Jeffrey actually looked at each other sadly. Oh my God, we had to get out of this.

The thing I’m not sure about this story is something that happens towards the beginning, so spoilers follow this (but the book’s been out for 7 years, so it’s not like I’m giving that much away).

What I don’t buy is their killing off the staff members who are not in on the plot. I can see that they might think it “acceptable” to kill supernatural and preternatural beings, and to think they could get away with it by claiming those beings were not people. But the cold blooding killing of the show staff? There is no way they thought they would not be put up on murder one charges for that.

So points off for, but points added for killing who had appearances other than in this book.
