The Pride of Garnet Run (2022) Roan Parrish (Garnet Run)
This is a Garnet Run story set between Best Laid Plans and The Lights on Knockbridge Lane that came out this fall.
Cameron returned to Garnet Run after unable to work as a musician. He works as a barista because he never quite figured out what to do with himself after not being able to make his dreams work.
Henry restores theaters and loves his work.
(V)intage movie theaters. Art deco theaters specifically. In the twenties and thirties, silent films transitioned to talkies, and the number of people who went to the movies skyrocketed. So many theaters were built— everything from huge, luxurious theaters like Radio City Music Hall in New York, Fox Theatre in Detroit, the Paramount in Oakland, to small town theaters like this one in towns all over the country.
So when he had the option to return home to restore the theater there, he hunted down the chance.
“This place was built in 1927. This all used to be bigger, but they turned it from one screen to three in the fifties, then closed up the original ceiling to install more modern lighting. I’m going to pull down the sheetrock and expose the original ceilings.”
I found these bits fascinating–we have two theaters here, and I know what one of them (the one that is currently closed) was at some point split into multiple rooms and I would love to see if was it originally was. The other theater is open and is slowly (slowly) being restored.
Yes, yes. That has nothing to do with the romance.
Cameron and Henry meet and immediately click, and we get quick glimpses of the restoration and of Cam’s decision to try and surprise Henry on opening night.
It is very sweet.
