When Blood Lies, Audiobook (2022) C.S. Harris narrated by Jenny Sterlin (Sebastian St. Cyr #17)

When Blood LiesSet in Paris in 1815

Sebastian and Hero have traveled to Paris in the hopes of finally finding Sebastian’s mother. Unfortunately, she is murdered before Sebastian can ask her her about his father, and so Sebastian and Hero search for the people who murdered Sophie–while rumors of Napoleon returning from Elba swirl and eddy through the city and the country.

The narrator has now changed to Jenny Sterlin. I didn’t love the narration of Davina Porter, but I’d grown used to it. I don’t like this narration either, as the voices and accents of familiar characters are now different, and I struggled to recognize who was speaking.

To complicate matters, this is the second book in the series I had not previously read, so I didn’t know where the story was going, making things more confusing.

The story is set during Napoleon’s escape from Elba and return to France, so this history of the French revolution and decades of war between France and Europe underlies the story, and multiple historical characters make an appearance.

I’ve been having trouble focusing on reading, so I am listening to the next week, but am still having trouble differentiating the characters.
