His thoughts were so jumbled that he hardly knew what to pray for, so he settled on a general, Do you see this whole mess, gods? Please just fix it! I’m begging You! He had a suspicion that most priests would have confirmed this was a very common prayer indeed.

“Don’t warriors name their swords?”

The paladin stared at him. “Is that a euphemism?”

Piper felt a flush starting. “I didn’t think it was, no. You know, the pointy metal thing?”

“…you know they don’t come when called, right?”

“Neither do cats, but people name those.” His flush was definitely growing.

“Yes, but that’s so you have something to yell when they knock things off the table.”
