Scandal at the Salty Dog (2021) Josh Lanyon (Secrets and Scrabble)

Scandal at the Salty DogEllery Page seems to have gotten his man. He and Police Chief Jack Carson may be seeing each other, but Jack isn’t pleased when Ellery gets involved in another mystery–especially since he’s just recovered from the events of the previous one.

Ellery was able to assure Ione he was no longer suffering from dizziness, fatigue, headaches, or ringing in his ears. She examined what was left of his dissolvable stitches, complimented him on the beauty of the wound healing on the back of his skull, and pronounced him fit to return to work.

But Libby is running the Salty Dog on her own while her father is healing, and one of Eller’s newest customers seems to have someone out to get her.

“Hello? Miss Blackwell?” Ellery called. “It’s me. Ellery Page.”

Not so much as the squeak of a floorboard in reply.

“Hello? Miss Blackwell? Don’t be afraid. I brought your books.”

This one seemed to be a little lighter than the others in this cozy series. Which is fine, but it didn’t quite have what I’d expect from a Josh Lanyon mystery.

Hopefully this was just a fluke and the next book will be a little more what I’ve come to expect.
