Bee Cave Magic (2020) Kelly Fox

Bee Cave MagicThis is a fun story in the same way CS Poe‘s Marriage, Love and a Baby Carriage. It’s silly and outrageous, with all the ridiculous shifter tropes, but it adds in it’s own fun twists.

Mrs. Hornblower, a pelican shifter transplant from Corpus.

I love fantasy stories that give us things beyond the normal wolves and bears and other predators. If shifters exist, I think you need to do some strong world building to explain why there might only be predators. And to be fair, some of my favorite stories do that. But I adore the idea of a penguin or any other kind of shifter.

And I really liked the way that her world building works.

Yet another thing that is weirdly disproportionate on my five-eight frame are my size thirteen feet. There is literally not one part of my body that matches up with any other part of my body. God, I’m such a freak.

And both main characters are adorable and lovely.

“It’s good, I promise. It’s not vegan, though, because it has honey.”

My goddamn honey, that is.

“But there aren’t any other animal products in it,” I say, gripping the Jeep to keep my hands to myself.

He looks up at me, curious. “You’re the only one who never treats me like an alien about my diet.”

I shrug. “I’ve liked you since high school, man. The other stuff makes you feel bad. I paid attention.”

It’s just sweet and adorable and all about acceptance.
