Science and medicine writer for the New York Times, her book Flu is absolutely fascinating and well-written, clarifying a subject about which few people know, despite the fact that it was a greater killer than "the Great War". My only quote for this book is, about the book from my friend Bob, when I asked him what he thought about the book:
I finished the "Flu" book. Very good. Of course, after I got about halfway thru it, Sarah (our daughter) got a fever which I took to mean she was now ground zero for a new unconstrained form of influenza, possible H6N2. She appears to have recovered, but we're keeping her away from pigs for the time being.
Just so you know, Sarah is fine, and was not incubating a new and horrific version of the flu.
