Fair Game (2012) Patricia Briggs
This is the third Alpha & Omega story, and although it is about Anna and about Charles coming to terms with the changes in his position as the Marrok’s enforcer, but even more important are the changes to the world that Anna & Charles and Mercy Thompson live in.
Throughout the Mercy series there has been an under story of how the world would react to supernaturals, both socially and in a legal context. This story is really about the status of supernaturals in the world, and how the world might react to their revealed presence. And that is what truly makes this story.
Yes, the bits about Charles dealing with his ghosts is interesting, but to me it’s far less interesting than the tension that has been building between humanity and the supernatural.
