Pies Before Guys

Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies (2022)

Magic, Lies, and Deadly PiesHonestly, it's been almost two weeks and I'm still not certain how I feel about this book.

Daisy Ellery has a dog, a pie truck, and the magic that runs in her family.

Unfortunately, Daisy's magic seems to have turned dark, allowing her to kill as well as to help.

So Daisy uses her twisted gift to help women escape their abusers.

But she still worries that her gift has been twisted beyond recognition, so she has strict rules she forces herself to follow.

Unfortunately, someone seems to have recognized what Daisy has been doing, and is ordering her to kill at their command, sometimes Daisy refuses to do. So she has to find the blackmailer and stop them–possibly breaking her own rules.

I was somewhat uncomfortable from the start, reading about a serial killer in the first person. Especially since Daisy's strictures for herself–and the way her magic works–isn't made clear initially, and I really didn't want to read a first-person PoV about a serial killer.

However, despite those misgivings, I couldn't stop reading, so take that as you will.

"Blood is blood, though. He's still family."

I shake my head. "No, blood isn't family. Blood is just a liquid, like water or honey. It's not special."
